SHIPLEY
MUSIC FESTIVAL 2002
Following 2001's
successful and enjoyable Shipley Concerts, which raised over £700
for the Dan Pope Memorial Fund, we extended the programme to include
a jazz concert given by a leading jazz band. We thus promoted
the events to a music festival - The Shipley Music Festival. All
proceeds went to the St Mary's Church spire restoration fund.
The Festival started with a jazz evening
in the Selsey Arms on June 26th with the Campbell Burnap Jazz
Band. Campbell Burnap is a leading Jazz musician who played with
the Acker Bilk Jazz Band and is a regular contributer to Jazz
FM. The Bernardi Chamber Ensemble performed two concerts in St
Mary's Shipley on July 4th. This distinguished and professional
Ensemble includes principals from leading London orchestras and
tutors from Trinity College and the Royal Academy of music.
Thursday July 4th 2pm - Concert
for Young People
As in the previous year, the concert was
light hearted and interactive so as to get our young people involved
and stimulated by classical music. The concert was based around
Summer and Winter from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and J.S.Bach's
suite no.2 for flute and orchestra. John Ireland is buried in
this historic and idyllic 12th Century Church, and so we performed
pieces from his Concertante Pastoral.
Thursday July 4th 7.45 pm.
Concert in aid of the Church Spire restoration fund.
The evening concert included Summer and
Winter from Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons', J.S Bach's Suite in B minor,
John Ireland's Toccata from his Concertante Pastoral and many
more popular and innovative classics including a new jazz piece
for Viola and piano. To view the
