SHIPLEY
FESTIVAL 2003
Shipley grows ever more adventurous with its annual Festival.
Its Music Festival, featuring the distinguished musicians of the
Bernardi Chamber Ensemble, has been expanded this year to include
a number of events: the Shipley Art Exhibition, a jazz evening
with Campbell Burnap, a concert with the Mid-Sussex Youth String
Orchestra and the opening of the Shipley Windmill, the home of
Hilaire Belloc and the setting for Jonathan Creek, all staged
over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend.
The events will provide sparkling entertainment in the idyllic
setting of the 12th century St. Mary's Church and the 19th century
working windmill. The Festival seeks to bring music making and
artistic endeavours of the highest standard to the local community,
building on Shipley's tradition for both. The musical events of
the Festival also raise money for charity, all profits this year
going to RUKBA and St. Mary's Church. Over £800 was raised in
2002. This year's events are:
