The Gifted and Talented String Academy consists of an average of twelve days per year. The String Academy is supported by over 200 Sussex and Surrey Schools as the lead enrichment programme for String players through the e-PD programme.
To join String Academy: You need to play Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass. Players are aged from nine years old to twenty, and elementary to post diploma standard. Past members include a former Young Musician of the Year, and over thirty musicians have successfully formed careers in music. Young musicians are organised into groups of similar standards, and typically have one piece which forms a String Orchestra.

Pupils play in small Chamber Orchestras, String Quartets, and there are opportunities to perform concertos for the most ambitious. Concerts are very creative, and include opportunity to perform with some of the UK’s leading String performers, and also actors including Timothy Christopher’s June Whitfield and in the forthcoming term James Bolam.
We have worked closely with partners including the Yehudi Menuhin School, Charterhouse and West Sussex County Council.
There is a strong emphasis on enjoyment of music, aspiration to perform from your current level, and also we have great success with social mobility: Several pupils have gone on to take up scholarships at schools, Universities and Music Colleges including: Stowe and Eton College; Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance; The Royal College of Music, The Yehudi Menuhin and Purcell Schools.
We are delighted the String Academy has been asked to represent the County at the Edinburgh 2016 Festival.
The String Academy with members of the Yehudi Menuhin School rehearsing with composer and Director of Music for the Yehudi Menuhin School in Professor Malcolm Singer in preparation for the opening of Shipley Arts Festival 2015. Musicians performed 'Music from the Shtetl' which gave opportunity for young players to play with some of the most advanced in the World.
Congratulations to Ben Gardner who takes up his sixth form Scholarship to Charterhouse this September 2015 - pictured here at the opening of the Shipley Arts Festival 2014.
String Academy performs at high profile events such as the 125 year celebrations for the formation of West Sussex County Council,
for the High Sherrif's of West and East Sussex, and to the left for the Lord Mayor of London in his Guildhall in the City , and in aid of supporting less fortunate young people.
Forthcoming performances include St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh in 2016
